Of Endings and Beginnings

What to do when it doesn’t work out.

Year ends and New Years are often marked by a rush to end old relationships and start new ones. Of course, some relationships are best ended or redirected but there may be that fraction of prematurely ended relationships that could have led to lifelong love and companionship but were discarded in the name of embracing unproven prospects that catch the eye (or heart).

When relationships are treated as commodities to be traded in for the latest and greatest; especially when expectations and boundaries were not set at the starting stages, someone almost always ends up hurt.

If you’ve found yourself on the receiving end of a broken relationship during transitory times of year, don’t lose heart. You (probably) deserve better.

How would you know when letting go or being let go means you deserve better?

  1. If you’re true to yourself, you were not happy in the relationship, but you tried to keep a bold face.
  2. You did most of the heavy lifting – giving far more than you got.
  3. You were constantly mistreated and put down; yet you endured it even though you knew it wasn’t right.
  4. Nothing kept you in the relationship other than the fear of loneliness.
  5. Somehow, you were simply in denial.

Love is about giving without expecting in return. However, and especially in a loving or romantic relationship, it is healthy to be loved back. If you loved and were loved back yet it all went wrong, look back and celebrate your good times together. The good seeds of love planted have a way of bringing you a harvest of greater love. Maybe in a different or unexpected package!

Don’t give your hope up. Endings are just a passage way to beginnings.
